Guide updated July 2026 · Runs via DOSBox + WebAssembly
Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold — Apogee's 1993 first-person shooter built on id Software's Wolfenstein 3D engine, with floor and ceiling textures, talking informants you could shoot (or spare), and Dr. Goldfire's alien-infested labs. The complete shareware Episode 1 ("Star Institute", 11 floors) is hosted right here — click Play and the original DOS game boots in your browser via DOSBox + WebAssembly. Nothing to download or install; the full six-episode game is still sold by the rights holder (link below).

How it works & what to expect
This is the original 1994 DOS release (v3.0 game data with the real BS_AOG.EXE), not a port — it runs inside a WebAssembly build of DOSBox on this page. Boot takes a few seconds on first load while the ~1.3 MB game package downloads; after that it's cached. Sound (Sound Blaster + AdLib music) is preconfigured, and the demo attract loop starts on its own — press Esc to bring up the menu and pick New Mission.
Playing tips
Talk to informants instead of shooting them — some hand out food tokens and hints, and shooting a friendly one costs you points. Elevators need a key card and a Space press at the panel. The auto-map (Tab) is worth checking often; Star Institute's floors loop back on themselves.
Shareware episode — and the full game
Episode 1 is the complete 11-floor Star Institute mission, distributed free under Apogee's shareware model (the same arrangement as the DOOM and Wolfenstein 3D shareware episodes hosted here). Episodes 2–6 and the sequel Planet Strike are still commercial — the full game is sold as Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold on Steam and GOG. If you enjoy the episode, buying the full game supports the rights holder.
Frequently asked questions
Is it legal to play Blake Stone here?
Yes. Episode 1 is the official freely-redistributable shareware episode, distributed exactly as Apogee/3D Realms released it (data v3.0, 1994). The commercial episodes are not included — the full game is still sold on Steam and GOG.
Is this the original DOS game or a remake?
The original. The page boots the real 1994 BS_AOG.EXE and game data inside DOSBox compiled to WebAssembly. No files are uploaded anywhere — everything runs in your browser tab.
Does sound work?
Yes — Sound Blaster digital effects and AdLib music are preconfigured. If you hear nothing, click the game screen once (browsers require a user gesture before audio starts).
Does my progress save?
Yes — progress now persists. Anything the game writes (saved missions, high scores, settings) is stored in your browser and restored automatically the next time you open this page. It's per-browser and best-effort: clearing site data, or a long gap on iOS, can drop it. Use the “reset saved progress” link under the game to wipe it deliberately.
Can I play on a phone or tablet?
Yes — a touch gamepad with move, fire, and open buttons appears below the game on touch devices. A keyboard is still the best way to play.
