About Vlak

Vlak works like Snake, with one difference that makes it a puzzle: the levels are hand-built, and the order you collect things in decides whether you can still reach the gate with a long train behind you. There are 50 levels, and each has a password shown when you complete the one before, so you can return to where you stopped. The whole game is about 13 KB, and being both free and that small is a large part of why it became so popular.

Tips for getting started

Look at the whole board before moving. Pick up objects in the open first and those in dead ends last, and leave yourself a clear path to the gate.

How it runs here

This is the original DOS release of Vlak, unmodified, running in DOSBox compiled to WebAssembly. The whole game is about 1 MB, so it starts within seconds on a normal connection. Sound and music play once you click into the game.
